If you are going to rent a Kiahuna Plantation Condo and want access to the new swimming pool, you need to rent from Castle Owner via VBRO.com .  Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation guests now have availability.  The Outrigger front desk said the Swimming Pool is now available provided the condo owner has an agreement with Poipu Athletic Club and be sure to ask before renting an Outrigger Condo.  We recommend that you use VRBO.  More information is at Kiahuna Plantation Rentals.

We checked prices and the prices from Outrigger and Castle are basically the same, around $165 to $250 per night.

Here is what the Swimming Pool Looks like, the restaurant is gone but the swimming pool is still there and available to Castle quests:

Boogie Boarding on Poipu Beach in Kauai

One of the best ways to have fun at Poipu Beach in Kauai is to try boogie boarding.  Hopefully this video will give you some ideas on how much fun it can be.  This also gives you an idea of the walk from our condo at Kiahuna Plantation Resort to the Beach:

Snorkeling on Poipu Beach Kauai

One of the most enjoyable and rewarding activities on Poipu Beach by Kiahuna Plantation Resort and Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club is snorkeling.  I use a Flip Video with a waterproof case.  Recommend that you get a waterproof guide to all the reef fish, which is available at the Kiahuna Plantation Activity Shack or other Dive Shops in Poipu.   Also available at the Whaler's Market in the Poipu Shopping Center.  You can buy snorkel gear at Costco in Kauai or rent it.

Beautiful Sunsets at Poipu Beach

Not only does Poipu Beach and Kiahuna Plantation Resort have great Boogie Boarding, Swimming, and Snorkeling, but they also have beautiful sunsets.

We love to eat at the Plantation Garden Restaurant at the Kiahuna Plantation Resort on Poipu because they have excelllent food.   You can rent snorkeling gear at the Dive Shop on the way to Koloa Town from Poipu Beach.  Next to the Dive Shop is a great Mexican Food ToGo Place called Da Crack.   It is interesting that air conditioners are not need on this side of Kauai because of the Trade Winds and this is also the sunniest part of kauai.

Our Favorite Condo on Poipu Beach in Kauai

Poipu Beach on the Island of Kauai has been rated as one of the Top 10 beaches in the World by the Travel Channel.  This is mainly because of the wide sweeping beach and the calm waters.  Plus it is an excellent snorkeling beach.   We consider this the best way to save money on travel because it is completely renovated and is on the first floor so we can eat on the lanai and also have an easy walk to the beach and the various bbq's which are top of the line.  You will love this beach many rate it as the best beach in hawaii.

Best Condo on Poipu Beach

For starters, after 25 years of travel to Kauai, we believe that the best place to stay is to get a good deal on flight to Kauai and stay at Kiahuna  Plantation   What is nice is the wide curve shaped beach that you can see on the photo below and the really nice Boogie Boarding and Snorkeling that is available.   Many nice restaurants are within easy walking distance and so is shopping.   We also like to eat at places on Poipu Beach and Koloa Town that are frequented by the local Kauai residence.   We have been to all the islands and this Condo is absolutely the best.  Poipu Beach has been rated in the Top 10 Beaches in the World by the Travel Channel.  We have been going to Poipu for 26 years.  Spring break is a great time to visit.  All the condos are recommended at Kiahuna Plantation except the ones by the cactus garden.  Be sure to find the best discount airfare to Kauai because it should not cost that much.

Snorkeling on Poipu Beach Kauai

Poipu Beach has some of the best snorkeling on Kauai. This video is short but shows a number of large fish.

Dinner at Plantation Garden Kiahuna Plantation Poipu Beach

Our favorite place to eat on Poipu Beach is the Plantation Garden because it is romantic and also they have wonderful food. We order off the pupu menu and have a glass of wine. This video will give you an idea of the wonderful outdoor open air restaurant and the food:

Casablanca for Dinner on Poipu Beach Kauai

This year is our 25th year of coming to Kiahuna Plantation and our 25th anniversary is in July. We went up to the Casablanca Restaurant at Kiahuna Plantation Poipu Beach Kauai for dinner because we like it and it has great reviews and ratings.  Really a great Happy Hour and wonderful restaurant on Poipu Beach and Kiahuna Plantation, we love the music and entertainment too that starts at 6PM every night.

Mike Young, the guitar player and singer surprised us with a really nice 25th Anniversary song, he is a great musician and he gave us an autographed copy of his CD, great music!

Video Part 1:

25th Anniversary Song by Mike Young at Casablanca Restaurant, Poipu Beach, Kauai:

Best Dessert on Poipu Beach is at Kalapaki Joe's

Kalapaki Joe's on Poipu Beach Kauai, near Kiahuna Plantation has wonderful food at a reasonable price. Their Warm Chocolate Chip Cookie with Lappert's Vanilla Ice Cream is the best dessert on Poipu Beach. If you like sports, this is also a sports bar, and you will also love the open air restaurant.

Kalapaki Joes also has a great Happy Hour and wonderful fish taco's.

Relaxing on the Lawn at Kiahuna Plantation Poipu Beach Kauai

One of the things we like about the Kiahuna Plantation Resort is the massive lawn in front of the ocean. This gives people who do not want to get sandy or who want to sit in the shade a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the ocean and maybe read a book.

Best Yoga on Kauai and Poipu Beach

The best place for Yoga on Poipu Beach in Kauai is at the Sheraton Kauai. For Sheraton guests the yoga is free. The yoga sessions are 1 1/4 hours and are held on the lawn next to the beach. Sessions are on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 8:30 AM. Meet at the registration desk at the Sheraton a few minutes early and bring 2 beach towels. For more information go to Joy's Poipu Beach Kauai Yoga Website.

Snorkeling on Poipu Beach

On the left side of Poipu Beach, right own from our Kiahuna Condo, is the best snorkeling on the Island of Kauai. You can attract fish with fish food but they discourage it. One of the best foods is frozen peas. The Poipu Snorkeling Beach is on the right and left of the Marriott Waiohai Beach Club and only about 50 yards for Kiahuna Plantation.

Kalapaki Joes on Poipu Beach

We were expecting the normal sports bar food but wow, this place has some of the best food on Poipu Beach and the prices are a bargain during happy hour which is 3PM to 6PM. We love this place on Poipu Beach. Just got back from having 2 glasses of wine ($3 each), hot wings (25cents each), and Lobster Tacos ($12.99). The wine was better than the Marriott on Poipu and half the price. Wine during happy hour is $3 and normally $5. We will definately return, the view is beautiful of the ocean with sailboats, and the service is outstanding. HDTV Wide Screen for the sports fans. Not your average Sports Bar, this place is gourmet.

Here is our favorite Kiahuna Plantation Condo.

Nice Video of Kalapaki Joes's

Koloa Farmers Market on Monday's at Noon

Don't miss the Koloa Farmers Market each Monday at 12 noon next to the baseball field just as you leave Koloa on the way to Lihue. Wonderful Flowers, lettuce, tomatos, shallots, vegetables, and coconuts just to mention a few.

Marriott Waiohai Bar and Grill

Only 100 steps from our Kiahuna Plantation Condo is the access road to the Marriott Waiohai Beach Club. We like to go to the Beachside Bar and Grill for a refreshment in the late afternoon and enjoy the view of Poipu Beach and the Hawaiian Music. Their happy hour is from 3PM to 5PM and on this trip we met a couple from Coos Bay, Oregon and also a couple from my wife's home town of Syracuse, NY. We were visited by one of the many resident roosters coming right up to our table and doing a Cock a doodle doo.

Best Place for Kauai Activity Reservations

We highly recommend the Kiahuna Plantation Beach and Activity Hut for Kauai Activity Reservations. After 23 years of traveling to Kauai and the Kiahuna Plantation we believe that the best activities are the helicopter ride and the zodiak boat ride along the Napili Coast. Be sure to talk to Paul at the Kiahuna Plantation Activity Hut on Poipu Beach for reservations. He can give you really good deals and also lots of information on what to do on Kauai on your visit. He has given us a number of valuable tips that have enhanced our vacation. Stop by his booth, you will be glad you did. He is also a professional bass player so if you are interested in music, he has lots of great ideas.

How to Cook Fish From Koloa Fish Market Poipu Beach

The following video show you how to cook fish from the Koloa Fish Market. We recommend that you buy monchong, ono, or mahimahi. Normally about 1/2 pound person is about right. You will need an egg, panko breading mix(Japanese bread crumbs available from Big Save next door to Koloa Fish Market), butter, and the fish for this recipe. Our favorite is Monchong, moist fish that is high in omega 3 fatty acids. Steam some asparagus or make a salad and you have a fast easy meal better than any restaurant and around $9 per serving.

Recommended Fish to Buy at Koloa Fish Market

After buying fish at the Koloa Fish Market for over 10 years, we recommend that you buy Ono, MahiMahi, or MonChong. We also like the Garden Rolls as an additional item to buy. In future post we will show you how to fix the fish using Pankow, butter, and Wasabi Cream Sauce. Make sure when you buy fish at the Koloa Fish Market that you order some Wasabi Cream Sauce to use at the table after the fish has cooked. The fish and the cream sauce are wonderful and is better than any fish that we have ever tasted on the mainland. Do not miss a visit to the Koloa Fish Market and be sure to try their Hawaiian Plate Lunch, which is the typical lunch of the local Hawaiians. Don't worry about the long lines out the door, this is a very efficient staff and the line moves fast. Freshest fish we have ever bought! A must visit while you are at Poipu Beach, we loe the place!

Kao Kea Bar for Wine and Food on Poipu Beach

We went into the Kao Kea Bar and were suprised by the high prices, 2 glasses of wine, and 2 sushi appetizers came to $60. For $40, we have eaten at Plantation Gardens and Keoki's and received 2 large salads, and 2 glasses of wine. We do not recommend the Kao Kea unless you are prepared to pay $100 per person for dinner and drinks. While it receives high ratings on the internet, for the average person the prices are simply too high.

Marriott Waiohai Bar for Wine and Food Poipu Beach

We went to the Marriott Waiohai Bar for a couple of glasses of wine and to look at their bar menu. The bar is right next to the ocean so really nice sounds. We were disappointed in this place because the wine was $7 and was served in plastic cups with about half the amount of wine ewe were served at Plantation Gardens and Kioki's. The bar menu reminded us one of the blue collar sleeze bars back on the mainland. Amazing that we were the only couple at the tables next to the beach, so this is not a very popular place.

Another Dinner at Plantation Gardens Restaurant Poipu Beach

We like a light dinner and normally have an appetizer and glass of wine. We also like a romantic, quiet spot that feels like Hawaii. The Plantation Garden Restaurant fits the bill, it has all the above, so it is the restaurant that we go to the most while at Kiahuna Plantation Condo. It is the first place we eat and it has also been a tradition to eat there on the last night of the trip. We have been coming to the Kiahuna Plantation Resort now for 23 years. The condo that we enjoy the most is Unit 86, since it gives us a good walk to the beach in the morning and we can also easily walk to the Swimming Pool, Casablanca Restaurant, Poipu Shopping Village, the Marriott for Happy Hour, and Red Salt Restaurant. The Plantation Gardens Restaurant is the old Plantation House that was on the 30 acres of land that now houses the Kiahuna Plantation Resort.

Kauai Culinary Market at Kukui'ula Village on Poipu Beach Kauai

The Kauai Culinary Market is a must see event on the south shore at Poipu Beach in the Kukui’ula Village Shopping Center. It is held every Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm, with the featured celebrity Chef Demo at 5PM. It is the perfect place to see and taste the authentic flavors of Kauai. This unique market enhances the shopping experience with a Wine and Beer Garden, lie Hawaiian and local music, and its picturesque setting within the authentic Plantation-Style structures of Kukui’ula Village. On this trip to the Farmers Market (We call it a Farmers Market), we bought some incredible flowers for $6, 3 giant heads of butter and red lettuce for $5 (3 heads or $5), $2 for a big bunch of radishes, and it was all picked today and grown on Kauai! Offering a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, tropical flowers, spices, pies, jams, and other delicious treats, the vendors are positioned as a"string of pearls" from Lappert's Ice Cream & Coffee to Living Foods Market & Cafe.

Da Crack Mexican Take Out Food at Poipu Beach

We have been coming to Kiahuna Plantation and Poipu Beach now for 25 years, we always loved a place called Taqueria Nortenos, but about 2 years ago it closed down. On this trip we were happy to see that the same location is now serving the same food and the name of the place is Da Crack. It got the name because Taqueria Nortenos's nickname was Da Crack, as in crack in the wall, since it is a small take out place but oh my, this is really good fresh and healthy mexican food. We like the vegetarian burito, the chicken soft taco , and the vegetarian taco. I like to add hot sauce but my wife likes the mild sauce. They have a basic menu of Burritos (beef, chicken, or pork for $5.00 - soft tacos (same choices) for $4.50 a "Burrito Bowl" for $5.00 and veggie choices of veggie burritos for $4.50, veggie tacos for $4.00 and cheese enchiladas for $5.00 as well as cheese quesadillas for $2.50 (with meat $4.50) - and the super wonderful nachos are $4.00. The "add ons" such as cheese, guacamole or sour cream are $1.00.

Slide at Kiahuna Swimming Pool at Poipu Beach

Kiahuna Plantation has a worderful swimming pool that is excellent for young children and also senior citizens. For children there is a sandy beach area at one end of the pool for toddlers and at the other end there is a slide for children as well as adults to enjoy. Senior citizens will enjoy the pool since it is only around 4 feet deep at the deepest. Also next to the pool is a hot tub for relaxing the muscles.

Yoga and Fitness at Poipu Beach Kauai

Wow, we just returned from a wonderful Yoga session on the lawn overlooking the ocean on Poipu Beach given by Joy Zepeda. It really gave our body a gentle stretch, and also releaved any inner stress that was built up in the tissues or mind. Joy has various yoga and fitness classes available to meet your needs including a Look and Feel Younger Workout, Start Your Fat Burning Engine Workout, Shrink Your Belly Workout, and Yoga Classes at Oceanfront that include Yin Yoga, Power Yoga, and Gentle Yoga. It was my first time and she gave me alternative positions that were easy on my system. I highly recommend Joy if you want to take your relaxation at Kauai to the next level. I told my wife, that after the session, my whole body, mind, and spirit were at peace. Joy can be reached at 808-639-9294 or contact her here. Both group and individual sessions are available. The Poipu Beach Yoga classes on Kauai Website will give you more information.

Kiahuna Plantation Swimming Pool, Great for Adults and Kids

We try to go to the swimming pool as well as the beach or a swim every day. By ending the day at the swimming pool, there is a hot tub as well as happy hour served at Casablanca Bar. After the pool closes we will often go to the bar for tapas, wine, and music by a variety of musicians. One interesting feature of the swiming pool is the kids sand area that is at one end of the swimming pool which is best shown in this video:

Keoki's Paradise at Poipu Shopping Village Rating

Went to Keoki's Paradise while staying at Kiahuna Planatation at Poipu Beach on Kauai. For starters we had a glass of Merlot for $8 and glass of Cabernet Sauvignon for $7. We split a Fish Taco Plate and it was enough for 2 people. Out of 5 stars, I would give this restaurant 3 stars. The service was great but the quality of the food was only average. Will return to try other meals on the menu.

Swimming and Boogie Boarding at Kiahuna Plantation on Poipu Beach

When we go to Kiahuna Plantation Resort at Poipu Beach in Kauai, one of our favorite things to do is swimming, boogie boarding on Poipu Beach which is right in front of our condo. Poipu Beach is known for it's excellent boogie boarding and snorkeling. The Beach Hut at Kiahuna Plantation has plenty of boogie boards, chairs, and towels for your use. Another nice thing about Kiahuna Plantation is a the massive lawn that goes right up to the beach, so those who would rather sun bath or get in the shade under Plam Trees. If you go to the left as you enter the beach down to the rocks, and go on the other side of the rocks you will find an excellent snorkelling beach. It is in front of the exclusive Ka'o Kea Hotel but the beach is public.

Koloa Fish Market Best Place for Seafood and Plate Lunch

If you want to eat lunch like the local Hawaiians do, then go to the Koloa Fish Market for their Plate Lunch. They also have the freshest local fish that you can take back to your condo and cook, such as Ono, MahiMahi, Opakapaka, and Ahi. Be sure to order some Wasabi Cream Sauce to use with your fish in your condo. My favorite plate lunch is the Sauted Ahi with wasabi cream sauce, 2 scoops of white rice, green salad, and homemade macaroni salad. Warning, the restaurants in Kauai get their fish from the mainland, so if you want really fresh fish get it at the Koloa Fish Market and cook it in your condo. You can get fresh Kauai lettuce (we like Butter Lettuce and Red Lettuce) at the Big Save next door. Add vegetables, blue cheese, and Newman's Balsamic Dressing to the salad, together with the fish and wasabi sauce on the side and you have a 5 star meal, better than any restaurant. Best way to cook the fish is to dip into egg wash, then dip into Panko Bread Crumbs, dot with butter, and put in oven for 30 minutes or BBQ on Oiled Foil. Hawaii fish is mild and has a wonderful testure. We love Ono!

Crazy Shirts Best T-Shirt Shop at Poipu Shopping Village

If you are looking for a really good place to buy T-shirts while at Poipu Beach, I highly recommend Crazy Shirts which is a couple of stores down from Roy's Restaurant. Their shirts always fit real nice and they last a long time. I forgot my bathing suit and found a nice one at Crazy Shirts. The graphics on their t-shirts are excellent and they always have new ones available. I bought a swim suit and got a free $27 shirt with the new Kauai Dive Tours Logo on it.

Plantations Garden Restaurant at Kiahuna Plantation Resort

We each had a glass of red wine and the Caesar Salad on the deck of the Kiahuna Plantation Gardens restaurant. The house Merlo and Cabernet were excellent and only $6.75 per glass. The Caesar Salads were also excellent with romaine stalks, home made croutons, shaved parmasean, and the best caesar dressing we have ever tasted. Often , caesar dressing can be over powering and too salty, but this dressing was perfect. The salad was only $8.85. A wonderful night with great service and we sat on the deck outside overlooking a tiki tourch lit tropical garden. This romanic dinner only cost us each $15, so we go their often after watching the sunset on Poipu Beach.

Keoki's Paradise is a Great Place to Eat at Poipu Beach

If you want a great place to eat while visiting or vacationing at Poipu Beach on Kauai, then we recommend Kioki's Paradise Restaurant. The ambiance and the staff are excellent and we love all the food. Be sure to visit them on your next trip to Kauai in Hawaii.

Helen Discovers Boogie Boarding at Poipu Beach Kiahuna Plantation

On our 2nd day at Kiahuna Plantation Resort Helen Discovered 3 Boogie Boards in the closet at the Kiahuna Plantation Condo For Rent. It was amazing that her first try she rode the wave all the way into the beach. From that day on she was on a boogie board for 1 to 1 1/2 hours each day and got a nice tan on her back. The condo has an adult boogie board, one for a 12 year old, and one for a 6 year old. Helen used the one for the 12 year old since she is only 5'2 ", a tremendous time at the beach, she was the oldest one on a boogie board all 11 days we were at the condo. On this day we went to the Organic Grocery and had a tremendous pizza and salad. The calories were easily burned off because we then went to the swimming pool and then to the Tapas at Casanova's Happy Hour.

Snorkeling and Boogie Boarding at Poipu Beach Kauai

One of the best snorkeling beaches on Kauai and right next to the Kiahuna Plantation Condo for Rent is called Brennecke's Beach. It is shallow water and easy to see hundreds of fish there. We also like to boogy board right out in front of the Kiahuna Plantation Resort. As a guest, you simply go to the Guest hut and get chairs and towels. The Kiahuna Plantation Condo has several Boogie Boards, one for adults, and the other for children. My 67 year old wife loves to boogy board on Poipu Beach.

Wonderful Fish Dinner at Kiahuna Plantation Condo

Today we bought some wonderful Hawaiian MongGong Fish at the Koloa Town Fish Market. We also bought 2 plate lunches. This is the place that the local Kauai people buy their plate lunches and fish. For plate lunches, I had the grilled ahi with wasabi cream, rice, salad, and macaroni salad. My wife Helen had Kalua Pork, ahi poki, marinated tomatoes and hawaiian noodles. Wonderful! We cooked the MongGong by dipping it in melted butter and lemon juice and rolling in Panko. Then top it with dots of butter and bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Wonderful.... we added wasabi cream sauce that we bought at the Koloa Fish Market, they sell it by the half cup, be sure to order some. We love it here and recommend this Kiahuna Plantation Condo for Rent, which is totally redecorated. Right now I am writing this blog on the lanai outside the condo as we drink wine and listen to the Hawaiian Music on the beach. All the General Managers from the Outrigger and Castle Resorts are here for a meeting this week so there is lots of free entertainment on the beach. We swam in the ocean today and also swam in the swimming pool, we feel so healthy here. 5 more days to go on this trip. My wife Helen loved Boogie Boarding on Poipu Beach right out front of Kiahuna Plantation Resort. Tomorrow we are going Poipu Beach Snorkeling.

Our Recommendations at Kiahuna Plantation for a Condo

We discovered Kiahuna Plantation 24 years ago and stayed in a number of different condo's including various condo's several times, but in 2005 we discovered Kiahuna Plantation Condo and this is abosolutely the best condo in the resort for a number of reasons:

1. Private, Quiet area with first floor lanai where we eat breakfast and listen to the birds and see the swaying palm trees.

2. The best decorated condo at Kiahuna Plantation, we especially like the new kitchen with new appliances and plenty of storage space. The bathroom remodel is amazing, with a wonderful travertine tiled walk-in shower!

3. Close walk to the tennis courts, swimming pool, and Casablanca Restaurant.

4. Great value, if you go to Kiahuna Plantation.

5. New HDTV with Internet Cable Access.

6. Wonderful Hawaiian decorations and art that makes you feel like you are in hawaii.

7. The natural sea breeze that cools the condo is exceptionally healthy because recirculated air conditioning is not healthy. If you breath this fresh sea breeze 24/7, including sleeping, you will feel the difference.

We will continue to add to this blog by adding more comments, pictures, and videos since we consider this the best Kiahuna Plantation Condo for Rent on Poipu Beach, Kauai.
